QOwnNotes needs Qt 5.3 or higher! For Ubuntu based distributions that only include an older version of Qt, likeLinux Mint 17.4 or Ubuntu 14.04 you need to add a PPA and install Qt from there. You also need to add a symbolic link, because this release of QOwnNotes is currently built with Qt 5.4.1.
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:beineri/opt-qt56-trusty
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install qt56-meta-full
sudo ln -s /opt/qt56 /opt/qt54

Then you also need to edit your profile file:
gedit ~/.profile

and add the following line at the end of the file:. "/opt/qt56/bin/qt56-env.sh"

After logging out and in again for the profile settings to take action you should be able to install below package of QOwnNotes directly.

QOWNNOTES

QOwnNotes is the open source (GPL) plain-text file notepad with markdown support and todo list manager for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Windows, that (optionally) works together with the notes application of ownCloud.
You own your own notes! All notes are stored asplain-text files on your desktop computer.
Sync them over devices (desktop & mobile) with your ownCloud sync client.
Use ownCloud Notes to edit your notes in the web.

So you are able to write down your thoughts with QOwnNotes and edit or search for them later from yourmobile device (like with CloudNotes) or the ownCloud web-service.

The notes are stored as plain text files and you cansync them with your ownCloud sync client. Of course other software, like Dropbox, Syncthing, Seafile or BitTorrent Sync can be used too.

I like the concept of having notes accessible in plain text files, like it is done in the ownCloud notes app, to gain a maximum of freedom, but I was not able to find a decent desktop note taking tool or a text editor, that handles them well in conjunction with ownCloud.

Out of this need QOwnNotes was born and I want to share with you the results.

Please be so kind to leave me a comment on thebottom of the page and tell me how you likeQOwnNotes or write me your suggestions.

You can also contribute code by sending me pull requests on GitHub.

Visit the QOwnNotes installation page for all available Ubuntu Linux, Mac OS X and Windows releases!

There are many Linux software repositories, amongst them repositories for Ubuntu Linux, Arch Linux, Debian Linux, Gentoo Linux, openSUSE Linux and Fedora Linux.

To manage your todo lists you need ownCloud tasks or Tasks++ as backend, with which you also can manage your todo lists in the web and on your mobile devices.

To get more features with ownCloud for your notes, like versioning and access to your trashed notes, you might also want to install QOwnNotesAPI on your ownCloud server.

To access your ownCloud notes from your mobile device you may want to get one of these apps:
MyOwnNotes for Android (3rd party)
CloudNotes for iOS (3rd party)
